Az üvegbura / The Bell Jar

Diplomamunkám Az üvegbura (The Bell Jar) című önéletrajzi regényt dolgozza föl, melyben a főszereplő lelkiállapotát, illetve az események alakulását a tipográfia eszközével illusztráltam. Célom az volt, hogy a szöveg önmagát illusztrálja, a főszereplő mentális hanyatlását olyan módon kövessék eltorzult betűformák, mint ahogyan egy üvegbura mögött látunk formákat átalakulni. A betűk tervezésénél koncepció volt a torzulás, a kaotikus betűkép, a kívülálló számára nehezen érthető jel létrehozása, ezáltal is szimbolizálva azokat az érzéseket, amiket a főszereplőhöz hasonló mentális betegségekben szenvedők – a környezetük számára érthetetlen módon – tapasztalhatnak.

My diploma work deals with the autobiographical novel The Bell Jar, in which I illustrated the psychological state of the protagonist and the evolution of events by means of typography. My focus was that the text illustrates itself, that the distorted letterforms follow the mental decline of the protagonist as we can see shapes transforming behind a glass jar. Distortion and chaotic typography were part of the concept in the design of letters, just like the creation of signs difficult to understand for an outsider, thus symbolizing the feelings – incomprehensible to their environment – experienced by those suffering from mental illness, like the protagonist of the novel.
