"I have always felt life as a plant that lives from its rootstock. Its very life is invisible, lying deep within the rhizome. All that is visible above the soil lasts only for a summer. Then it withers - an ephemeral phenomenon. When one thinks of the infinite formation and passing of life and cultures, one is filled with the thought of absolute nothingness; but I have never ceased to feel that something lives and endures under eternal change.
