Echo is an experimental publication that presents influential graphic artists and stylistic features of the past five decades, while examining how the creators of the past influence us consciously or unconsciously. My central question was where to draw the line between inspiration and imitation, and when and why certain eras or stylistic features experience a renaissance. Through my graphic works, I reinterpret these influences, reflecting on the eternal cycle of visual culture. My primary goal was not nostalgia, but to search for new meanings using the tools of the past.

My thesis examines the visual style of Y2K, with a particular focus on its current Y2K renaissance. My hypothesis is that the stylistic features of the contemporary Y2K renaissance – both in terms of form and content – are largely identical to the original Y2K aesthetic of the turn of the millennium. The aim of this thesis is to compare these, identify the differences, and illustrate them with visual examples. The thesis also examines the extent to which the return of this style is due to digital nostalgia and the rapid cycle of visual trends
